The active ingredient in Strattera atomoxetine increases the amount of norepinephrine, an important chemical in the brain. This appears to help ADHD by increasing alertness and reducing impulsive behavior and hyperactivity.
The dosage of Strattera depends on the patient's age, body weight, and symptoms.
The recommended dose of Strattera for children aged 6 to 16 years and for patients weighing < 70 kg is 0.5-1 mg per 1 kg body weight.
Patients over 16 years of age weighing >70 kg should start treatment at a dose of 40 mg Strattera per day, increasing gradually to 80 mg to 120 mg.
