Dopamine is a chemical messenger (“neurotransmitter”) in the brain that is primarily involved in thinking, emotions, behavior and perception.
In some diseases, there can be too much dopamine, leading to unwanted symptoms. The main effect of quetiapine is to block the action of dopamine in the brain, resulting in a reduction in symptoms.
Quetiapine Seroquel Tablets also affect other neurotransmitters in the brain such as serotonin and its positive effects may also be related.
Seroquel tablets are taken regardless of meals and once or twice a day, depending on the condition.
Recommended dose for adults
For the treatment of acute and chronic psychoses, including schizophrenia, the total daily dose for the first 4 days of therapy is 50 mg (Day 1), 100 mg (Day 2), 200 mg (Day 3) and 300 mg (Day 4). After the 4th day of treatment, the daily dose should be adjusted to the usual effective dose of 300 to 450 milligrams daily. Depending on the clinical effect and individual patient tolerance, the dose can vary from 150 mg to 750 mg / day. The maximum daily dose is 750 mg.
For the treatment of manic episodes in bipolar disorder, quetiapine Seroquel is used as monotherapy or as adjuvant therapy for mood stabilization. The daily dose for the first 4 days of therapy is 100 mg (Day 1), 200 mg (Day 2), 300 mg (Day 3) and 3400 mg (Day 4). By the 6th day of treatment, the daily dose of the drug Seroquel can be increased to 800 mg. The increase in daily dose should not exceed 200 mg / day.

In elderly patients, the starting dose is 25 mg per day. The dose should be increased by 25-50 mg daily until an effective dose is reached, which is likely to be lower than in younger patients.
For patients with renal or hepatic insufficiency, the starting dose is 25 mg per day. It is recommended to increase the dose by 25-50 mg daily until the effective dose is reached.

Seroquel is a potent and well-tolerated atypical antipsychotic that contains the active ingredient quetiapine.
Areas of application of Seroquel tablets
Quetiapine Seroquel was developed in England by the chemical company ICI and patented in 1987. Its advantage over antipsychotics developed in the 1950s was a milder side effect profile. Short-term side effects of quetiapine include drowsiness, dry mouth, dizziness, and low blood pressure when standing. The duration of these effects is about six hours. The information about quetiapine warns against drinking it with grapefruit juice, since this juice blocks the metabolism of the drug in the intestines, which leads to an increase in the effect of the drug. Long-term side effects of Seroquel's active ingredient quetiapine include weight gain, high blood sugar and an increased risk of diabetes. With regular use of quetiapine, withdrawal symptoms occur when the drug is stopped, such as nausea, insomnia, headache, diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, and irritability.
Quetiapine Seroquel tablets are often prescribed off-label at low doses, ie not for the treatment of mental illness. Most often, such use is due to the main side effect of the drug, namely drowsiness. The sleep benefits of Seroquel active ingredient quetiapine have been noted in war veterans, with military personnel reporting a decrease in nightmares and anxiety. Some even reported sleeping more than six hours for the first time since returning from the war. However, there have been reports of deaths in the United States of veterans taking quetiapine.
For depression, I was prescribed the antipsychotic Seroquel in combination with an antidepressant. One 25 mg tablet is enough for me to sleep well at night. Seroquel does not cause any side effects for me, which surprised me positively. If you only use one tablet a day, the price of the treatment is not so high.
