How does it work?

The drug Rivotril contains as an active ingredient clonazepam, which belongs to the group of benzodiazepines.

Clonazepam has a depressant effect on many structures of the central nervous system, mainly related to the regulation of emotional activity.

Clonazepam has an anticonvulsant, anxiolytic, sedative and moderately hypnotic effect, it also reduces skeletal muscle tone. Clonazepam increases the seizure threshold and prevents the onset of epileptic seizures. It affects the course of both generalized and partial seizures.

How is it used?

Adults

The daily starting dose should not exceed 1.5 mg . The daily dose is divided into 3 single doses throughout the day. The maximum daily maintenance dose, which should be reached within 2-4 weeks after treatment, should not exceed 20 mg.

Children

The starting dose in children aged 6 to 16 years is 0.5 mg per day. The maintenance dose is 2-4 mg/day .

The daily dose should be divided into 3 or 4 individual doses and used at regular intervals.

Patients with impaired kidney and/or liver function

Caution should be exercised when using Rivotril in patients with impaired renal and hepatic function. It may be necessary to reduce the dose of the drug.

Elderly patients

Elderly patients are more sensitive to drugs that affect the central nervous system. It is recommended that the starting dose of Rivotril for these patients does not exceed 0.5 mg per day.
