The active substance in Ativan Lorazepam acts on receptors in the brain called GABA receptors. This causes a neurotransmitter called GABA to be released in the brain.
The neurotransmitters are the chemicals stored in nerve cells in the brain and nervous system that are involved in the transmission of signals between nerve cells. GABA is a neurotransmitter that acts as a natural "nerve calming" agent. It helps balance nerve activity in the brain, reduces anxiety and relaxes muscles. When lorazepam increases the activity of GABA in the brain, it also increases sedative effects.
The dosage depends on the individual situation and the area of application. Ativan is usually taken two or three times a day to treat anxiety. The tablets should be taken by mouth at the same time each day. For insomnia, Ativan is used just before bedtime.

Ativan® is a trade name of Lorazepam. It is available in 2 dosage forms: tablets and solution for injection. Usually, this supplement is prescribed to treat anxiety. However, it also has other uses. For example, Ativan can also be used to treat insomnia, seizures in children, and alcohol withdrawal. It is also rarely prescribed as a muscle relaxant.
The EMA-approved indications of Ativan:
Off-label, this drug can be used for depression, pain, fear of flying, as well as nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy and alcohol cessation.
Ativan belongs to a group of drugs called benzodiazepines. The medicines in this group are used to treat depression, anxiety, sleep disorders and muscle problems. When a patient takes Ativan, it affects a neurotransmitter in the brain called gamma-aminobutyric acid. The active substance lorazepam enhances the work of gamma-aminobutyric acid, which leads to inhibition of the nervous system. This reduces mental and physical excitement.
Ativan is considered a safe drug and most patients do not experience any serious side effects when taking this drug. The side effects mainly occur at the beginning of the treatment. To prevent the unpleasant side effects, the dose can be reduced by the doctor.
Common side effects of Ativan include drowsiness and changes in the nervous system. Weakness, dizziness and lack of coordination may also occur. Some people may experience increased or decreased appetite, hearing or vision problems, while other patients may feel depressed.
Some of the side effects like breathing problems and low blood pressure are more serious. Leukopenia, hallucinations and seizures are also possible. The anger and excitement can indicate a problem, as can jaundice. If a person experiences serious side effects or an allergic reaction to Ativan®, they should see a doctor immediately.
Long-term use can cause withdrawal symptoms. For this reason, the drug should be taken for a maximum of two to four weeks. If you take Ativan for more than four weeks, your body can become tolerant of its effects, meaning you would need higher doses to get the same effect. You can also become dependent on lorazepam and then experience the withdrawal symptoms. Some of the possible withdrawal symptoms include nausea, insomnia, and ringing in the ears. Patients may also experience abnormal sweating and tremors. To avoid unpleasant symptoms, the preparation should be discontinued gradually rather than abruptly. When a patient experiences withdrawal symptoms, the severity of their symptoms often depends on the duration of use and dosage.
It is not recommended to take Ativan if you have angle-closure glaucoma. This medicine can make your condition worse. Before taking, tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver disease, respiratory disease (such as asthma, bronchitis, emphysema), depression, or thoughts of suicide.
If you have one or more of the above conditions, you cannot take Ativan, or you will need a special dosage of the drug and constant monitoring during its use.
Do not take Ativan if you are pregnant or might become pregnant while taking this medicine without first checking with your doctor.
Lorazepam can pass into breast milk. If you are a breastfeeding mother, do not take the preparation without consulting your doctor.
Patients over 65 years old are at high risk of side effects. Depending on the situation, the doctor can either reduce the dose or prescribe a different drug.
Lorazepam causes drowsiness and muscle weakness and can impair concentration, alertness, and judgment. These effects can last until the next day.
It is not recommended to consume alcohol while taking Ativan or a day after taking it, as the effects of lorazepam can last until the next day. Alcohol may affect you more than usual while you are taking a benzodiazepine.
Too much caffeine can make you more anxious and affect your sleep. It's best to avoid caffeine.
Yes, you can find Ativan in numerous online pharmacies. However, if you want to safely order Ativan, choose a legit online pharmacy. In legal online pharmacies, you will receive a valid prescription after a brief medical consultation. This is necessary because serious side effects can occur when taking Ativan. Therefore, before prescribing, a doctor must determine whether taking it is not advisable due to certain pre-existing conditions.
The prices for Ativan depend on the dosage and package size. Therefore, it also plays a role in which pharmacy you order Ativan.
So that you can order Ativan cheaply, we provide you with the price comparison.
