How does it work?

Aciclovir is an effective antiviral agent. It is best to start treatment within 72 hours of the onset of symptoms, however, the sooner you start taking aciclovir, the treatment will be most effective.

Aciclovir does not cure herpes infections, but it can reduce the duration, severity, and frequency of symptoms. It works by reducing the ability of the herpes virus to multiply in your body. Even after taking the drug, the virus still lives in your body and your symptoms may return.

How long does it take for aciclovir tablets to work?

It can take up to 2 hours for aciclovir to reach the maximum concentration in your body after taking a tablet. You may find that the symptoms subside within 1-3 days.

  • the patient's response to the first dose of treatment.

The dose ranges from 200 mg to 800 mg and is taken 2 to 5 times a day. For most infections, you should feel better after taking aciclovir tablets for a few days.

Always take aciclovir exactly as your doctor has told you. Swallow the aciclovir tablets with a glass of water. If you have trouble swallowing the tablet, you can dissolve the tablet in a small glass of water.

Space out your doses evenly throughout the day. For example, if your dose is to be taken 5 times a day, take a dose approximately every 4 hours, e.g. 7am, 11am, 3pm, 7pm and 11pm. You can take aciclovir with or without food.

Aciclovir is an antiviral medicine and is used to treat infections caused by viruses such as herpes simplex virus and varicella zoster. It is also used to prevent the viral infections in people with a weakened immune system, e.g. B. if you receive the cancer medicines (chemotherapy).

Why is it important to select a correct aciclovir dosage?

Using the wrong dose of aciclovir is not recommended. You should always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you, or follow the instructions on the package leaflet.

Taking high doses can lead to an increased risk of aciclovir side effects or adverse reactions to the drug. It also doesn't help speed up your treatment and get rid of infections faster.

Taking too low a dose of aciclovir means you are not getting a strong enough dose to treat your infections effectively. If you are taking this medication to prevent your infection from flaring up, a certain level needs to be maintained in your body at all times. Otherwise it may not work as well or may stop working.
